July 9 – State Treasurer Kate Marshall announces record number of claims in June.
Nevada published its annual list of Unclaimed Property in state newspapers in June resulting in more than 11,000 claims being filed. That’s an increase of more than 4,000 over the previous record number of claims for June. The published list included 312,555 properties worth $47 million. This $47 million is only a fraction of a total value of $650 million currently held by Nevada’s Treasury Office.
According to State Treasurer Marshall, Nevada is currently returning nearly 50% of abandoned property held by the state back to the rightful owners, well above the national average of 33%.
